2 mediumt-mac Technologies, a UK energy management businesses that enables building occupiers to cut carbon and cost, is celebrating its 10th year in business this month.

Launching the t-mac device from humble beginnings starting as a brother-sister team in 2004, the growing business now employs 30 staff, has tripled its turnover in the past six years and operates globally with clients in Europe and Asia Pacific.

In 2004 the concept of remotely accessible real-time metering, monitoring and controls for managing and reducing a building’s energy use was new and accepted by only a few forwarding-thinking businesses. Now ten years on, the world of carbon reduction, cost savings and building management systems are seamlessly interlinked.

t-mac provides real-time energy and environmental metering and monitoring as well as building controls and equipment performance management. The t-mac device ensures the building and the energy intensive equipment within the building operate to an optimum level with environmental performance, energy efficiency and costs savings at the heart of the operation.

t-mac’s use of an interactive, cloud based central software platform also means that users can analyse, manage and operate one or many buildings through single software interface from anywhere in the world.

Lisa Gingell, director, t-mac Technologies, explained: “In 2004 the remote monitoring and building control world was in its infancy, but with the threat of legislation and a greener attitude by society becoming more apparent we knew that we were on the tipping point for building management and control. The financial energy issue also became much bigger for businesses as prices started to escalate.

“It was both an opportune and a challenging time to start a business. Much of our time in the early years was spent convincing building occupiers why they should monitor and manage energy consumption.  BMS was not a new concept but the ability to map energy data with controls to engineer the BMS and building operations around energy efficiency was. And in recent months the requirement for big data storage is gathering momentum.

“In 10 years the pace of technology changes, the ‘internet of things’, innovation, and arrival of social media has given us huge scope to develop – all challenges we have relished and given us the catalyst to develop our software. Staying ahead of the curve with our research and development and creating solutions is at the forefront of our plans and we aim to continue to bring more technologically advanced solutions to the market place.

“We are often asked what the secret to t-mac’s success is, for us it’s all about offering a variety of solutions as building energy management isn’t a one size fits all. From analysing tools for advanced users to iPhone apps and custom energy showcasing dashboards for buildings who want to showcase their savings to staff and customers, the opportunities are vast. Making building occupiers aware of their energy use and how they can save and continue to operate efficiently is at the heart of what we do.

“Predicting what businesses will need next, from SMEs to multinationals and UK based business to those with global coverage, is at the core of what we do. Being creative with what we deliver and not staying static by ensuring we are considering new practices and utilising technological advancements. Reaching the ten-year milestone is big news for us and after a decade’s worth of industry knowledge we can safely say that we know what the industry want and need from a Building Energy Management Systems like t-mac.”

t-mac Technologies suite of devices and software includes: Maxi t-mac, micro t-mac, Energy Analysis, Energy Saving Dashboard, SMART.DASH and  t-mac app.
