ADE: Heat Networks, the UK’s largest non-profit heat network trade body, today strongly supports the government’s reminder to households receiving means-tested benefits to ensure they’re named on their electricity bill to automatically receive £150 off energy bills this winter.

The expansion of the Warm Home Discount means over 6 million households – including 900,000 more families with children – will now qualify for the vital support. This follows the removal of eligibility restrictions that previously excluded vulnerable households.

Caroline Bragg, CEO of ADE: Heat Networks, said: Getting £150 automatically to over 6 million households – including 900,000 more families – is vital help this winter. We strongly urge everyone on eligible benefits to check you’re named on your electricity bill before August 24th.

This expanded support is crucial and the best way to keep bills low permanently is to stop wasting energy. By capturing lost heat and using every bit of renewable power, we can build efficient heat networks that cut costs for good and boost Britain’s energy security.”

Eligible households in England and Wales receiving Housing Benefit, Income Support, Universal Credit or other qualifying benefits must confirm they’re named on their electricity bill by Sunday 24 August 2025 to receive the £150 automatically. Those who miss the deadline may face delays receiving support until 2026. Last winter, 96% of eligible households received the discount automatically.
