Electric vehicle (EV) drivers have a new option for smart charging their car at home, thanks to a new agreement between Andersen EV and EDF.

Anyone with an Andersen EV charge point can now access EDF’s Smart Charging bolt-on and a low-cost off-peak rate by signing up to EDF’s GoElectric tariff.

The GoElectric tariff provides seven hours of zero carbon off-peak electricity every night, between 11.00pm and 6.00am, at a rate of just 6.99p/kWh. This would enable a customer with an EV equipped with a 50kWh battery to charge from 10% to 100% for just £3.15*.

Customers with any Andersen EV charge point can now add EDF’s Smart Charging bolt-on, providing access to more off-peak electricity rates outside the standard overnight window. Based on the customer’s preferred departure time and charging requirements, EDF automatically creates a personalised smart schedule and manages charging at times when electricity is cheapest and less in demand. This makes it easier for drivers to benefit from low-cost electricity without continually monitoring prices or manually adjusting their charging schedule.

EDF’s off-peak rate also applies to electricity used in the home during that period, extending the potential savings beyond EV charging.

Customers who remain opted in and regularly use EDF Smart Charging will also receive a £5 credit on their monthly energy bill, equivalent to £60 a year**.

David Martell, CEO of Andersen EV, said: “Compatibility with EDF’s Smart Charging bolt-on gives new and existing Andersen customers another highly competitive option for charging at home. By adding Smart Charging to their GoElectric tariff, drivers can simply plug in, set when they need their vehicle to be ready and allow their charging to be managed automatically. This gives users greater choice and control over their home charging costs, while the additional off-peak periods and annual bill credit make owning an electric vehicle even more rewarding.”

Joe Souto, Director of Retail at EDF, said: “We’re really pleased to announce our partnership with Andersen, which gives even more drivers access to further their benefits of EV driving. By signing up for our Smart Charging bolt-on and letting EDF take control of their EV charging, customers are rewarded with a monthly credit, making driving an EV even more appealing.”

EDF’s GoElectric tariff and Smart Charging bolt-on are available to customers with Andersen Quartz, Quartz Vision, A3 and compatible A2 charge points.

To be eligible, customers will need to have an EDF electricity tariff, a compatible smart meter and an Andersen charge point.
