Recent amendments to the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994 (PSSR) and the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002 (ESQCR) have made plug-in solar kits legal to connect to a standard UK mains socket. However, while solar panels provide an accessible starting point, battery storage enables households to make fuller use of the energy they generate.
In Germany, for example, roughly 70% of plug-in solar systems are now sold with a battery attached. The panel draws people in; the battery is what keeps them. Without a battery, solar energy generated during the day is either used immediately or exported to the grid, and consumers have to buy electricity at a higher price in the evening to meet their need.
A home battery changes that situation, capturing surplus daytime generation and making it available when the household actually needs it: during the evening peak, overnight, or whenever the sun isn’t shining. The result is higher self-consumption, lower bills, and greater independence from the grid. The Solarbank 4 Pro delivers exactly this, and its all-in-one design, integrating the inverter and battery into a single unit roughly the size of a carry-on suitcase, makes it significantly more compact and accessible than the conventional systems that have defined the category until now.
Solarbank 4 Pro: Automatic energy for intelligent savings
Solarbank 4 Pro features a modular, stackable architecture that starts at 5 kWh and scales to 30 kWh, letting households begin at the capacity that fits their needs and add more as those needs grow, with no second installation required. Its 5,000 W MPPT solar input supports up to 12 solar panels, while AC output of up to 2,500 W and an off-grid output of up to 2,500 W ensure that even high-power appliances can run without drawing from the grid.
Built around InfiniPower technology, the system uses automotive-grade LFP cells rated for 10,000 charge cycles, equivalent to twice-daily use for well over a decade, so the battery keeps pace with the daily rhythm of solar charging and off-peak grid top-ups without compromising longevity. Together, these capabilities can save a typical UK household up to £770 a year, with a payback period of approximately 3.3 years2.
The system is powered by Anker Intelligence, an AI-driven energy management platform that integrates with over 870 electricity suppliers across Europe, including Octopus Energy. The Solarbank 4 Pro automatically optimises charging and discharging to capture the lowest electricity prices. Paired with the Smart Meter Gen 2, it monitors energy flows in real time to achieve zero waste, ensuring that every kilowatt-hour generated or stored is used efficiently, whether it is coming from the roof or the grid.
Future-ready storage
The Solarbank 4 Pro features a future-ready hardware architecture with plug-in capability built in, ready to connect directly to a standard socket should UK regulations be extended to cover battery storage. Today, however, UK regulations require the system to be installed by a Part P-registered electrician via a hardwired connection to the consumer unit, currently the only compliant installation method and the one that keeps home insurance valid. This unlocks 2,500 W of continuous power, and because the system is already listed in the Energy Networks Association (ENA) Connect Direct Device Database and has passed G98 type testing, installation is straightforward for any certified electrician.

The Anker SOLIX Solarbank 4 Pro is available for pre-sale from 27 August at a special price of £1,699 via the Anker SOLIX website. The Solarbank 4 BP5000 Expansion Battery will be available from £1,299 during pre-sale.
