British Gas and So Energy have committed to Effective Energy Group’s Help4Homes scheme, which provides energy saving advice, free heating, insulation and white goods and an income maximisation service for low-income and vulnerable households struggling to pay their energy bills.
Unlike some other Government-led schemes, the Nottinghamshire Group’s scheme isn’t focused solely on energy reduction measures but extends to cover a variety of different areas; key amongst them income maximisation, which can play a significant role in the difference between households remaining in fuel poverty and getting out of it.
Since going live at the end of 2021 with an initial £500k of funding, the response to Help4Homes has been overwhelmingly positive.
Simon Oscroft, Co-Founder at So Energy, added: “In its first few months Help4Homes has already provided support for 1,500 households in England and Wales, delivering everything from energy reduction measures through to significant increases in household incomes – in some case up to £3,000 a year.”
“This scheme will only grow in its importance this year, particularly now that the energy price rise has hit home and bills have increased for millions of households. At So Energy we have always looked to do right by our customers, going above and beyond to help those most in need, so we’re delighted to support Help4Homes during this time.”
The 54 per cent rise in energy costs that took place on April 1st is likely to send another two million households into fuel poverty – taking the total of households living in fuel poverty in England and Wales to over six million.
Neil Marshall, director of external affairs at Effective Energy Group, said: “We’re delighted to have the scheme supported by British Gas and So Energy, and while Help4Homes is ideal for energy companies and local authorities, any business wishing to help in the fight against fuel poverty can invest.”
