Certas Energy is to supply Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) to some of its biggest events at the home of British motorsport, the Silverstone Circuit.
The decision to switch to HVO is part of Silverstone’s ‘Shift to Zero’ initiative, and it contributes to Formula 1’s drive to be Net-Zero Carbon by 2030. An estimated 350,000 litres of HVO will be used for the on-site generators at the racecourse, which will power equipment like mobile kitchens, lighting, and stages for live music.
The renewable alternative diesel has been supplied for the following events: Tissot British Grand Prix MotoGP on 23-25 May, Formula 1 British Grand Prix on 3-6 July, and the Silverstone Festival on 22-24 August.
Certas Energy HVO is produced from waste and residue derived feedstocks, approved by the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation scheme, which is audited by the Department for Transport. This renewable alternative to fossil diesel is a drop-in solution and can reduce carbon emissions by up to 90 per cent.
