Endeco Technologies, a leading UK and Irish technology and demand-side response (DSR) aggregator, has received the prestigious ‘Seal of Excellence’ certificate for the development of its EnergyConnect platform.
Presented by Horizon 2020, the EU’s largest ever research and innovation programme, Endeco received the award in recognition of its smart grid optimisation technology platform. The platform allows electricity network operators, such as National Grid, to rapidly balance network frequency, provide greater use of renewable technologies and helps minimise blackouts, whilst clients take advantage of automated energy savings through demand peaks, optimised asset performance monitoring, and automated switching between schemes to ensure the highest revenues.
“We have the largest R&D team in the industry,” said CEO and co-founder of Endeco, Michael Phelan. He continued: “We’ve invested more than 40 years’ worth of man hours into developing EnergyConnect. This Seal of Excellence acknowledges the hard work that has gone into bringing this technology to market. Our award-winning platform empowers major energy users to take control of their energy flexibility, unlocking powerful, recurring revenue streams from National Grid, with zero disruption to their day-to-day operations.”
Endeco was one of thousands of organisations that applied to the Horizon 2020 programme, which is evaluated on three criteria: excellence, impact and quality, efficiency of implementation. The Seal of Excellence certification is assessed by independent experts and represents a high-quality label awarded to projects that were deemed to deserve funding.
Funding for research and innovation
With almost €80 billion of funding made available from 2014 to 2020, plus additional private investments, the Horizon 2020 programme aims to fund more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking innovative ideas and developing them from the laboratory, through to the market.
By coupling research and innovation, Horizon 2020 focuses on excellent science, industrial leadership and tackling societal challenges. Its goal is to ensure Europe produces world-class science, removes barriers to innovation and makes it easier for public and private sectors to work together in delivering innovation.
