CDP released its annual Climate Change Report on behalf of 822 investors representing US $95 trillion in assets. Its release comes ahead of the COP21 United Nations climate change conference next month.

The report outlines a 2015 so-called A-List of companies identified as performing exceptionally well in their actions against climate change. Companies featured on the list include tech market giants such as Apple, Google and Microsoft.

Chris Jenkins, director of EFT Energy Consultants, said:

“The results shown from the CDP report are promising and indicate large corporations are making significant moves to positively impact on their responsibility to combat climate change, not only with their actions, but through being open with its stakeholders and releasing reliable data showing the effect of its business operations.

“With such large organisations being seen as making improvements and taking measures to reduce their carbon outputs, it is hoped that SMEs will also follow suit. This will undoubtedly help the UK with its climate change targets. It will also showcase UK businesses as socially responsible, and being more energy efficient can save businesses significant amounts of money due to reduced energy expenditure.

“It is pleasing to see that sustainability and being energy efficient is gaining more prominence in the corporate world. It is also a warning to those companies that did not respond with their carbon output data that there will soon be nowhere to hide and stakeholders will not accept ambiguity when it comes to corporations’ impact on climate change.”
