In the lead up to the nationwide 2030 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars, award-winning sustainable housebuilder Greencore Homes has announced a partnership with mobility hub provider Zimbl, the first developer partnership for the Oxfordshire-based brand.

Residents at The Canopies, at Milton Heights, Oxfordshire, will have access to a shared on-site Zimbl MG-5 car, as part of the Z-Base Mobility Hub, with extra Z-Charge charging facilities provided for communal use.

An induction will be required for those using the vehicle, with guidance on how to adjust to its speed, together with charging myths and energy usage. Residents will have the choice of an in-person session, or an online session. The company also offers its Z-Confident™ accreditation, to ensure complete safety and driving confidence.

Zimbl launched with just one car in Banbury in 2022 and has since expanded throughout Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Today, the company has an EV-only fleet of cars, vans and minibuses, mostly powered by its own off-grid hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) fuelled generator and has received over 9,000 bookings from its almost 3,000 registered users.

Greencore’s partnership with Zimbl is part of its wider commitment to nurture sustainable communities and foster sustainable developments through innovation and local resources.

The Canopies redefines sustainable and future-proof living. Each home is built to the internationally recognised Passivhaus standard, using superior insulation, airtight construction and mechanical heat recovery ventilation to deliver fresh, filtered air, year-round comfort, enabling significantly lower energy bills.

Zimbl Founder Jan Simmonds said: “We are delighted to partner with Greencore Homes on our first collaboration with a housing developer. The Canopies is an ideal setting for our Z-Base Mobility Hub, combining sustainable homes with convenient access to shared electric transport.

“Giving residents access to a vehicle when they need one can reduce the cost and environmental impact of individual car ownership, while our induction and support will help users feel confident making the switch to electric driving. We hope this partnership will demonstrate how shared mobility can become a practical and valuable part of sustainable communities.”

Rodger Shipway, Head of Sales and Marketing at Greencore Homes, comments: “At Greencore Homes, we always strive to stay ahead of the curve by championing innovation that delivers meaningful change. With sustainability at the heart of everything we do, we’re partnering with Zimbl to make shared electric mobility more accessible for our homeowners.”

“As the UK works towards achieving Net Zero by 2050, it’s vital that communities have access to the infrastructure needed to support more sustainable lifestyles. By introducing a shared electric vehicle to our development, we are further helping residents reduce their environmental impact and are offering sustainable alternatives.”

The Canopies comprises 27 private market sale homes with prices starting from £404,950. Other purchase options include Shared Ownership or First Home houses and apartments, due for release later in the year.

Milton Heights offers excellent transport links, with Didcot Parkway Station just over three miles away, providing direct trains to Oxford, Reading and London Paddington. The surrounding countryside and development nature trails encourage outdoor activity, promoting wellbeing for all ages. Local schools and universities are accessible within a 20-mile radius, including Didcot Sixth Form College and The University of Oxford. Nearby green spaces include Radley Lake and Mowbray Fields, supporting an active and connected lifestyle.
