Holchem, the UK leader in hygiene technology solutions, is reducing its energy lighting costs by 87% with the installation of low energy LED lighting to replace the previous florescent tube lighting in its manufacturing and warehouse facility. The new system will save 1,310,021 kgs CO2 over a 15-year lifetime.
The new technology ensures the lights do not need to constantly be on full power with the intensity of new lighting adjusted automatically with the varying influence of natural sunlight from the skylights. The lights can also be programmed individually, by group or by circuit with various parameters including always on or off after three minutes inactivity and the sensitivity of detection can vary depending on the level of activity in a given area.
The installation is mentioned in the company’s newly published Environment and Sustainability Report 2016 which includes the various commitments the company has in place to ensure it reduces its impact on the environment. These include encouraging customers to return 25 litre kegs, drums and IBCs, for launder and re-use and only using re- used pallets, re-used drums and re-used IBCs. Since 1987 Holchem has back loaded its delivery fleet with suitably palletised empty and rinsed containers collected by its customers. The containers are laundered, inspected and/or tested and then returned to the company for refilling.
Iain Robertson from Holchem, said: “The new LED lighting clearly sets out our commitment to continue reducing our impact on the environment and is the latest in a number of initiatives which have seen the company reduce its energy consumption over the past eight years. We work with all our employees to ensure that they understand and implement all the policies in place as well as our customers to encourage them to follow our lead and make a real difference.”
