EDF Energy has agreed to partner with the London Resort to enable it to become one of the most sustainable major theme park destinations in the world.

Under a 25 year concession to be signed on the grant of planning, EDF Energy will build, own and operate the onsite renewable energy generation and storage facilities for the London Resort, and enter into a 25 year renewable energy supply agreement to supply all of the park’s energy requirements. This agreement is believed to be a first for the global tourism industry.

PY Gerbeau, chief executive of London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH), said: “The London Resort is committed to using low-carbon energy to power our park. Through working with EDF Energy we are exploring new and innovative ways of making the resort as sustainable and environmentally responsible as possible. This is a top priority for us, as it will be for our visitors long into the future”.

Vincent de Rul, director of energy solutions at EDF Energy said: “We’re looking forward to working with the London Resort to create a bespoke low-carbon energy solution for one of the UK’s most exciting projects. This opportunity is unlike anything else currently being developed and this gives us scope to do something new with the latest technologies available.”

Through the partnership with the London Resort, EDF Energy will demonstrate the many ways that businesses can play their part in a low-carbon future as the UK economy progresses towards its net zero goals.
