As more businesses target net zero carbon emissions, SSE Green Electricity has been independently verified and assured for a further 12 months by EcoAct, a CDP Accredited Provider.
Generated wholly from wind and hydro sources, SSE Green Electricity is matched to power use from the grid. It’s fully backed by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs), and the independent verification by EcoAct confirms that the electricity comes from a renewable source. This enables businesses to report zero Scope 2 emissions under the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard market-based methodology and supports organisations’ environmental reporting requirements.
This renewed certification of SSE Business Energy’s renewable electricity contract shows the supplier’s commitment to helping organisations take action on climate change. An increasing number of companies, large and small, are seeking ways to reduce emissions and cut their carbon footprint, as the UK government tasks us collectively to hit net zeroby 2050.

As part of a rigorous assurance process, EcoAct assessed SSE Green Electricity and its environmental claims against the GHG Protocol reporting and quality criteria. The consultancy reviewed the REGO-backed product specifications, and evaluated SSE’s REGO balance for the most recent Fuel Mix Disclosure period. EcoAct also tested SSE Business Energy’s design and operation processes, including a sample batch of product-specific transactions, risk management and data processing.

Demand from businesses for renewable energy is growing. Research conducted by EcoAct found that 67 per cent of FTSE 100 companies are now purchasing electricity from renewable sources, such as SSE Green. This number has more than doubled in the past two years, as only 32 per cent were purchasing renewable energy in 2017. Of FTSE 100 companies, three per cent already source all their energy from renewables, and a quarter are committed to switching to this.
