Sainsbury’s is celebrating topping the Eco Stars retailer rating for its road fleet and depots.
A record 14 Sainsbury’s depots have been awarded 5 stars by the scheme – putting the retailer at the top of the Eco Stars’ green ratings.
Eco Stars rates vehicles and depots from companies across the UK and Europe. They are assessed by industry experts on both operational and environmental performance and achieve an ECO Stars rating between 1 and 5.
Sainsbury’s transport compliance manager Sharon Mitchell said: “We are very proud of this achievement with Ecostars. It’s part of Sainsbury’s commitment to respecting our environment as we continue to reduce carbon emissions.”
Jim Chappell, ECO Stars manager said: “We’ve been very impressed with the commitment that Sainsbury’s has shown to managing their fleet’s impact on the environment, and are delighted that they have embraced the ECO Stars scheme so wholeheartedly. From just one depot in Sherburn-in-Elmet five years ago, now every Sainsbury’s distribution centre able to join across the UK has signed up. ECO Stars is open to all fleet operators – whatever their size, but it’s fantastic to have the support of such a recognised and respected operator as Sainsbury’s.”
