Portmeirion appoints Lucideon to reduce kiln energy use

Portmeirion has appointed Lucideon to develop a scientific approach to minimise energy usage, by reducing the amount of natural gas burned in their production process.

In a six-month programme, the loading of Portmeirion’s premium earthenware products into their biscuit kiln will be measured, analysed and ultimately computationally modelled to understand and optimise the firing process.

Flow control system from Bürkert reduces energy costs for aerospace equipment manufacturer in Portsmouth

An initiative to reduce energy costs for Dart Aerospace in Portsmouth identified steam energy usage that could be optimised. The company involved Bürkert’s engineering team to develop a system that could automatically close steam flow during non-operational periods. This custom-developed flow control system was set live in January 2025 and achieved return on investment in a matter of months. Paul Hobden, Account Manager at Bürkert UK, reports.
