Ofgem announced a £25bn five-year investment programme to transform the energy networks and deliver emissions-free green energy for Great Britain. In light of this, David Hall, VP Power Systems at Schneider Electric commented:

Ofgem’s announcement has struck the right chord in the path to deliver a cleaner, greener and fairer energy system for customers. More than ever, we need to ensure consumer energy bills remain low to avoid weakening the appetite for clean power, while investing more in network improvement to power a greener economy.

“Utilities companies that are already looking ahead to a greener future, have the ambition, the technologies and the skills to build a healthier, more resilient energy network that drives sustainable economic prosperity. Hopefully, Ofgem’s five-year investment plan will act as a catalyst in tipping the balance towards fully green energy for Britain.

“Clean power systems will constitute as the single biggest investment opportunity of the next decade. Renewable electricity generation, storage and power grids are all essential to decarbonise existing supply and meet growing electricity demand from the rapid electrification of buildings, transport and industry.”
