Siemens eMobility and OMV have expanded the charging infrastructure for electric trucks and cars along the Brenner route in Austria, with the world’s first SICHARGE FLEX charging system officially put into operation at the OMV station in Kufstein.
With this new high-power charging system, OMV is expanding its electric mobility offerings and creating additional charging options along a major European transportation corridor, particularly for heavy-duty electric vehicles.

SICHARGE FLEX is a decentralised system that combines modularity, scalability, and flexibility for depots and public charging. With a power output ranging from 480 kW to 1.68 MW, the system can be adapted to different scenarios and the growing demands of a location. OMV is a Charge Point Operator (CPO) and Mobility Service Provider (MSP) in several European markets and operates a comprehensive charging network in Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania.
It initially offers four charge points for passenger cars and two charge points for trucks, each with a capacity of up to 400 kW. In the next phase, four additional charge points for trucks will be added, with power outputs ranging from 600 kW to 1,200 kW delivered via MCS. This will significantly reduce the charging time. For example, a modern electric truck with a 620-kWh battery can be charged from 20 percent to 80 percent in about 45 minutes, allowing drivers to make the most of their legally mandated rest breaks. Thanks to fully dynamic power distribution, the available charging power can be allocated among the connected vehicles as needed.

“The electrification of freight transport is a key pillar of a sustainable transportation system,” said Markus Mildner, CEO of Siemens eMobility. “SICHARGE FLEX is a scalable solution that can be precisely configured for a variety of use cases – from logistics depots to public charging facilities for cars and trucks. In cooperation with OMV, we are demonstrating how this new generation of charging infrastructure works in practice.”
“The new high-power charging facility in Kufstein marks another important step in the expansion of our charging infrastructure. Heavy-duty electric vehicles, in particular, require powerful and reliably available charging options along major transportation routes. Kufstein’s location on the Brenner corridor makes it an ideal site. Together with Siemens, we are creating a solution that meets our customers’ needs while also demonstrating what the future of mobility could look like at our locations,” said Peter Vysny, VP of International Operations & eMobility at OMV.
