LRQA recently attended the Energy Management Forum where routes to ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) compliance were showcased. Despite the December 5th deadline, experts at the event believed that many organisations are delaying their compliance to ESOS until the latter part of the year.
Organisations required to comply are aware of the deadline, but believe they have plenty of time. The problem, however, lies in the amount of ESOS Lead Assessors.
Unless an organisation has chosen the international energy management system standard (ISO 50001) route to compliance – and can demonstrate it covers 90% of their energy usage – then the most common available route to compliance is an ESOS energy audit.
“With over 7,000 entities required to comply by December, organisations need to be mindful that a shortfall in ESOS Lead Assessor resource doesn’t compromise them meeting the ESOS deadline,” explains Lionel Westall, LRQA’s senior business development manager and Sector Specialist.
To help organisations ‘get-started’ with their ESOS compliance, LRQA produced a step-by-step guide for the Energy Management Forum. Designed as a reference tool, it guides organisations through ‘Nine steps to successful ESOS compliance’.
