British Gas is making it easier for customers to take control of their energy bills by removing the upfront cost of installing a home battery, through its new partnership with Sunsave.

Customers then have the choice of two battery tariffs: Store&Save that provides the lowest fixed anytime electricity rate in market, or Store&Reward which offers customers a low fixed rate and a £37.50 a month bill credit for 24 months to cover the battery cost.

By storing electricity with a home battery when it’s cheaper and using it later, customers could save up to £640 a year on their energy bills. Batteries can be installed in just a few weeks, helping households to start saving sooner.

Tens of thousands of homes have installed solar and batteries so far in 2026, reflecting the growing demand from customers for more control over their energy use. While often installed alongside solar panels, a home battery paired with the right tariffs offers outstanding value to customers.

Two simple tariffs designed for saving:

The tariffs work by allowing customers to link their batteries to British Gas to optimise charging schedules ensuring customers have low priced electricity at any time of day. Both tariffs are being launched with competitive unit rates, with Store&Save offering the lowest fixed anytime electricity rate in market.

  • Store & Save: A straightforward option focused on ongoing savings offering a low, fixed 24/7 electricity rate of 11p/kWh for all household electricity use and one of the simplest ways to reduce energy bills with a battery. Savings up to £640 per year.
  • Store & Reward: Ideal for customers looking to offset installation costs, this tariff offers a competitive fixed electricity rate of 22p/kWh, and a £37.50 monthly bill credit for 24 months to help cover the battery subscription. The average battery customer on Store&Reward will save up to £190 a year on electricity and see their battery costs covered for 2 years.

John Evans, Commercial Director at British Gas said: “Customers want more control over their energy – not just what they pay, but how they use it. Home batteries make that possible. By removing upfront costs and launching tariffs designed around real usage, we’re making it easier for customers to get started and see the benefit from day one.”

Ben Graves, Co-founder, Sunsave said: “Solar can massively cut energy costs, but it’s not suitable for all homes. If you can’t get solar, you can still save a lot of money with a home battery, especially when it’s paired with the right tariff. Not a lot of people are aware of this today, and so we’re excited to deepen our partnership with British Gas to help more households save.”

Martin McCluskey MP, Minister for Energy Consumers said: “This initiative from British Gas will give more people affordable access to clean energy technology that can really lower their bills. It fits with our Warm Homes Plan, ensuring millions of families can benefit from solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps through low and no-cost loans, helping homes cut bills for good.”

Sunsave installs the battery system — including a 10kWh battery and inverter — in a matter of weeks. Each system comes with a 10-year product warranties, and a 10-year insurance-backed workmanship guarantee, giving customers peace of mind on performance and reliability. Unlike other battery finance schemes, customers own the battery outright and have full flexibility over their payments.
